From what I read above, I am not hopeful that the Mac server will work.

I am going to try the Mac OS X VH server to see if that makes a difference.

iLok 1 and iLok 2nd Gen work fine with EastWest Play and Pro Tools. Frequent crashes of Cubase 8.0.20 (Mac OS X 10.10.4) on an iMac when trying to work with a large orchestral template. Click on the license and drag it into your USB folder, as soon as it is transferred to the USB dongle and the USB device ejects, the license is already transferred. My eLicenser dongle is not working well over the internet using a Synology DS 1513+ NAS as the VH server. To transfer the existing license to your USB eLicenser dongle, open the Cubase eLicense Control Center on the computer that has the existing license. But that is, of course, a much faster ethernet connection to the Synology NAS VirtualHere also works quite well on my LAN with my Mac Pro running Cubase 8 and Mac OS 10.10.4. I made sure I was not on the same LAN as my Synology NAS box. Is the slow upload speed the issue? My own "back yard" test with my MacBook Pro running Cubase 7 and Mac OS 10.10.5 was successful using an iPhone Hot Spot WAN connection of 1.5/1/0 mbps. Some additional info: My business partner's remote iMac has a connection speed of 15.0/0.8 mbps. Michael: Any progress on this issue? We are about ready to give up on VH.

I tried "usb over ethernet" from Eltima and it worked with version 2, 2 years ago, but now it doesn't work anymore for dongles. Your USB server is the only one working for dongles like Ilok or Syncrosoft. Especially if you use the dongle over internet, the up bandwith is always very low in that case.Īnyway, great work Michael. I think this could be fixed by introducing some kind of on-the-fly compression between usb server and the client ( I'm sure the data sent by the dongle can be heavily compressed ) that would reduce the hangs. The dongle still communicate often with Cubase, like before, but the amount of data exchanged is a lot of MB, hence the hangs when you open a window ( especially the midi editor ), cubase sends information to the dongle and it has to send data back, but very large.

Indeed, from what I know about stein berg protection, they changed their protection 2 or 3 years ago. It is true that sometimes Cubase hangs when you open a window or something like this, but the hang ( for me ) doesn't last longer than 1 second. I just tried syncrosoft and it works really, really good.
